When Jerry Puiia moved from New York to Connecticut he knew something wasn't right--there were no bagel shops. With the help of his brother Joe, Puiia opened The Bagel Stop in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1990. When the company began franchising in 1992, its name changed to Between Rounds. Between Rounds shops combine a bagel shop and a catering service with two of the most profitable sections in a supermarket--the deli and the bakery.
WOOPS! was born in 2012 from a simple idea: Why not make money by
opening a pop-up shop at the bustling Holiday Shops at Bryant Park in
New York City - sharing delicious, specialty macarons with shoppers? The
response let the founders know they were onto something, and they
wasted no time in looking into how they could build a business on the
idea that macarons make wonderful and special gifts as well as a
day-brightening treat for oneself.
