Jim Fox started working with pizza when he was 12, hanging around a local pizza shop filling soda machines and folding pizza boxes. In 1971, at age 24, he started Fox's Pizza Den in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania. With $500, a rented storeroom and a few pieces of used equipment (rescued from a snow-covered Pittsburgh scrap yard), he began to build his empire. In 1973, Fox's Pizza Den started offering home delivery. Since 1974, the company has grown to over 150 franchises. Fox's Pizza is a family-owned and -operated company that offers toppings such as pepperoni, sweet peppers, hot banana peppers, beef, bacon, anchovies, black olives, pineapple and more. Fox's also offers stromboli, gourmet pizzas, hoagies and wedgies (a sandwich served on pizza crust). Jim Fox assisted with Carnegie Mellon University's robotic team in developing the country's first pizza-making robot to help the physically disabled own and operate their own shops.
SPIN! is known for its hand-spun, stone-fired authentic Neapolitan pizza and wide variety of fresh salads tossed with dressings created in-house daily. In addition to a diverse selection of traditional thin-and-bubbly crust, rustic whole wheat, and gluten-free pizzas, SPIN! offers other Michael Smith created appetizers, soups, salads, signature Panini and Italian deli sandwiches. SPIN!'s signature gelato program, which regularly rotates about 30 flavors, features gelato made from scratch in small batches for SPIN! using natural ingredients. All of SPIN's toppings and ingredients are made from fresh produce and prepared daily including made-from-scratch soups and salad dressings. SPIN! takes the unique step of roasting all toppings and ingredients in its stone hearth ovens each day, including mushrooms, caramelized onions, artichokes, and even capers, pecans, pineapple, pine nuts, and pancetta. SPIN!'s pizza dough is made fresh every day using several types of flour, including one specially imported from Italy. SPIN! offers both traditional Pizza Rossa (red pizzas with crushed tomato sauce) and Pizza Bianca (white pizzas with roasted garlic olive oil glaze), and many hand-grated cheeses. Its gluten free crust is renowned for its flavor and texture and, along with SPIN!s many popular salads, has brought SPIN! recognition for having the best gluten free menu in Kansas City. SPIN! serves a variety of affordable premium wines priced well below traditional restaurant prices. SPIN! also makes homemade white, red and blood orange sangrias and offers a selection of craft beers. In addition to its wines and artisan menu, SPIN! is known for its pioneering hybrid service model, which combines traditional fast casual ordering in the restaurant's lobby with a robust full service experience at the table. The "premium fast casual" system is especially appealing to diners who want to control the speed of their meal without sacrificing service. This is the second national concept created by SPIN! partners Gail and Richard Lozoff, Edwin Brownell, and Michael Kramer, who are experienced in large multi-unit expansion, franchising, and operations.
