Based in Baltimore, Sylvan Learning Centers was founded in Portland, Oregon, in 1979 to provide personalized instructional services to students of all ages and skill levels. Sylvan has been franchising since 1980 and has learning centers in North America and Asia.

The brainchild of Steve and Tammy Perry, PC Kidz was formed in 2001 after Tammy, a former elementary school teacher, noticed a void in basic computer skills with her students. In 2003 the PC Kidz program was offered in over 150 educational child care centers within the eight company owned and seven franchised territories in Texas, North Carolina and Nebraska.
