Gary Hendricks may not have a Rumblin' Mystery Machine like Scooby Doo, but he's got a business van loaded with high-tech gadgets. Hendricks, a 1982 graduate of Marion High School, opened Expetec of Grant County, a computer business, last month. He drives a van set up to provide mobile repair services for personal computers. "Everybody around town sees the van and says, 'Oh, I wondered what that was,'" Hendricks said. "It's equipped with parts and supplies and repair tools for any on-site service. It has diagnostic tools that will detect a hardware failure and software problems and scan for viruses. "Spyware has become the No. 1 corporate nuisance problem in business today." Hendricks, who has partnerships with IBM, Hewlett Packard and others, mainly works on business computers, but also works on home computers. Expetec is a franchise of a 13-year-old company, originally named PC Doctor, and the corporate office is in South Dakota. Before starting his business, he was head of information technology at Wabash Hospital for five years and has also been a network engineer. His wife, Judy, works at Wabash Hospital, and they have two grown children. Their home is in the original Swayzee schoolhouse, and the business was formerly the location of Swayzee's first bank. "I kind of feel like I identify with the history of Swayzee because I occupy a couple of the historic properties," Hendricks said. Stacy Hall has the business next door, Chuckwagon Food and Pizza, and welcomes her new neighbor. "We've been putting a card on the pizza boxes to let people know there's a new business in town," she said. "I think when (buildings) are full, we look like a more fulfilled community." Hendricks, who is used to working with people who don't know a floppy disk drive from a CD-ROM drive, offers customers this wisdom: "First and always, reboot the machine. Furthermore, many simple problems can be quickly diagnosed over the phone."
