Joint Venture Brings Zyng Asian Noodlery Chain To The Us

ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA & MONTREAL | Friday, May 03, 2002

Fransmart and Arnold Shostak, founder and CEO of Zyng Asian Noodlery, Canada's largest chain of casual dining Pan-Asian restaurants, announce the formation of a new company called Zyng International to expand company-owned and franchised Zyng Asian Noodlery restaurants around the United States. The first company-owned restaurant is planned for Northern Virginia and there are already 20 new franchise units slated for development by franchisees of other Fransmart brands. The development strategy is to penetrate as many of the primary media markets around the country as quickly as possible to secure a top position in the rapidly growing Pan Asian segment occupied by PF Chang's, Big Bowl, Pick Up Stix and others. The Zyng Asian Noodlery menu features over 25 appetizers and Zyng's signature "Teppanyaki Teamwork" dishes where guests can choose from thousands of combinations of vegetables, noodles or rice, meats and sauces before the meals are prepared teppanyaki-style in exhibition kitchens in full view of the entire restaurant. Zyng differentiates itself by its atmosphere, cooking methods and the variety on its menu, including dishes from China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. Zyng serves a variety of beers, wines, sakes, and a signature drink called Zangria. Zyng Asian Noodlery restaurants are approximately 3,000 square feet, seat approximately 100-120 guests, cost approximately $250,000 - $300,000 to open and average $900,000 - $1.2 million in sales. Restaurants are situated in high-profile end-cap and freestanding pad locations in trade areas with solid residential, daytime/office, daily needs shopping, and entertainment synergies. Fransmart is a franchise development company based in Alexandria, Virginia. Over the past year, Fransmart has sold over 200 franchises for the brands in its portfolio including the sale of over 100 Italian Pie franchises to multi-unit franchisees of other brands such as Taco Bell, Copeland's of New Orleans, and Popeye's restaurants. The founders of Fransmart also helped QDOBA grow from a single unit in Denver to a national chain with over 80 restaurants open and another 300 in development to large, multi-unit franchisees of other concepts looking for non-competitive brands to grow with.
