Love Of Snowboarding Creates Family Business

The love of snow boarding brought this couple together and their mutual addiction to the slopes of Mount Ranier offered little time to cogitate the benefits of joining the corporate world. That is, until the patter of a small pair of feet redirected their priorities.

Gary and Leah Burke were like many young couples who were born and raised in the Seattle area. The great outdoors, with all of its splendid beauty was their playground and one sport in particular, their passion. Snowboarding above the rest of the world held a special place in their hearts until their son was born. Faced with a new set of obligations and responsibilities, they weighed their options and set new parameters for seeking security for the new family. Both decided that leaving Seattle and their families would be avoided at all cost. The alternatives left Gary with very few options and the immediate situation motivated Gary to take a position with a local franchise company selling and installing blinds. “I had no knowledge of this business,” stated Gary, “but I found it very fulfilling when I finished most jobs and found the pleasing look on most of my customers’ faces.” What was not pleasing to Gary and his wife was the lack of time for the slopes. They decided to create their own business in the window fashion industry and sought out to find the best way to accomplish this goal.

Gary and his wife purchased the first exclusive territory available in Seattle and headed off to Dallas, Texas for extensive two week training program. “We’re very excited,” stated Leah. “We already knew how good this business can be, so it kind of relieved us of a lot of anxiety when we put all our savings into this project.” Upon graduation, the two will be equipped with a van which their new company refers to as a “roving billboard.” They will work out of their home and van which is fully equipped with all the latest samples of latest trends in window fashion design. “I always preferred taking samples home to see how they would look in my own environment,” stated Leah. “I think most women will really appreciate that we have it all the trends for immediate viewing in the comfort of their home.” “I know that going into business for ourselves is not going to let us start hitting the slopes anytime we want to,” stated Gary. “But, at least we know that if we work hard, the only persons we can blame for not being able to do so are ourselves.” Both are elated that they have positioned themselves at an opportunity to watch their child grow while working their way back to the slopes. As for the new youngster, let’s hope he grows to love snowboarding.
