There's A California Big Boy Rush Going On! Agreements Signed For 56 New Bob's Big Boy Restaurants In Southern California Over The Next 10 Years

WARREN, MICH. | Monday, February 06, 2006

There is truly gold in them thar' hills and it's BIG BOY! Southern California will be a hotbed of growth for Bob's Big Boy restaurants with an agreement signed by Big Boy Franchise Management LLC and a southern California restaurateur to open 56 new Bob's Big Boy restaurants in California over the next 10 years. Under the agreement the first Bob's Big Boy restaurant is targeted to open in Colton in May with a second location planning to open in Signal Hill in July. Both restaurants will be approximately 5,000 square feet with seating capacity for 150. The Colton location is a converted Carrow's and one of its special features will be outdoor seating; the Signal Hill restaurant is a converted Coco's. Both will incorporate design elements featured in prototypical Big Boy restaurants. Those elements include bright red, blue, and yellow decor, spacious booths, murals and an ice cream counter. As customers enter the brightly lit entranceway, they will be struck with the openness of the restaurant's design. The Colton and Signal Hill Bob's Big Boy restaurants will also feature the famous all-you-can-eat breakfast and fruit bar. Mike Hashim, president of BBB Restaurants in San Bernardino, California, and Suhail Hashim, president of QSC Corporation in Northridge, California signed an agreement with Big Boy Franchise Management LLC to open Bob's Big Boy restaurants in Orange and Los Angeles counties, along with the southern part of Ventura county, California, which includes Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village. The territories in this agreement also include San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties. This new agreement between BBB Restaurants, QSC Corporation and Big Boy Franchise Management means that the southern California market is now sold out with the commitment for 56 new stores in addition to the existing Bob's Big Boy locations. The Hashims have been in the restaurant business for over 30 years and have owned and operated several restaurants and major franchises including Pizza Hut, Shakey's Pizza, Howard Johnson and Red Lobster. "We love Bob's Big Boy and have been a big fan and a customer since the 1980s," said Mike Hashim. "We are proud to be part of the Big Boy family and it will be a dominant factor in the southern California restaurant scene. Everyone we speak with is excited to see Big Boy coming back and all of them would love to see one open in their neighborhood in the near future," he added. "We've opened three stores out west in the past two and a half months and the response by our customers has far exceeded our expectations," said Tony Michaels, CEO of Big Boy Restaurants International LLC. "We've seen unprecedented excitement and interest in our brand by investors and potential franchisees. With signed commitments for over 100 stores we're ahead of the projected timeline in our strategic growth plan," he added. This aggressive national franchise development program for Big Boy Restaurants International LLC began in 2003, shortly after Robert Liggett, Jr. purchased the Big Boy restaurant chain. In addition to the explosion of growth on the West Coast, there is also a proliferation of new stores that have broken ground and will be open in Florida and Michigan over the next six months. Headquartered in Warren, Michigan, Big Boy Restaurants International LLC is the exclusive worldwide franchiser of more than 455 Big Boy Restaurants in the United States and Japan.
