Carlson Hotels Worldwide In-room Guest Magazine 'Voyageur' Honored With Two Awards

Carlson Hotels Worldwide today announced that the company's in-room, quarterly guest travel magazine, Voyageur,was recently honored with two national awards. The first, from the North American Travel Journalist Association (NATJA), was presented for a travel story on family reunions featured in the publication's July-September 2005 issue. The second honor was a silver Pearl Award from the Custom Publishing Council (CPC) for the same family feature. "As busy as people are today, they're looking for answers to simplify their lives," said Mark Caskie, Voyageur's editor. "The article provided an important reader service by sharing ready-made itineraries and tips for staging successful family reunions." The article covered 10 destinations, including Washington, D.C.; Flagstaff, Ariz.; and Dublin, Ireland. The suggested activities reflect the diverse nature and interests of the contemporary family.

Since 1992, Voyageur has been published by Greensboro, N.C.-based Pace Communications, a leading publisher of consumer travel magazines including national airline in-flight magazines for some of the nation's largest carriers. The NATJA Award This annual award program honors travel journalists worldwide in a variety of categories for writing, photography and editorial excellence. The NATJA Awards Competition is annually judged by the School of Art & Media Studies and the School of English, Philosophy & Humanities at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. This year's ccompetition received more than 550 entries from travel writers, publications, public relations and advertising agencies and Convention and Visitors Bureaus around the world. Beth D'Addono, the writer of the winning family travel article that appeared in Voyageur, is a food, travel, and lifestyle writer who contributes to numerous national and regional newspapers, guides and magazines.

CPC Pearl Award The Pearl Award, which this year honored 88 entrants in 30 categories, was created by the CPC to honor excellence in journalism, graphic design and publication packaging, and the development and execution of integrated marketing strategies built around custom publishing in North America. A team of 30 judges reviewed more than 350 entries to select gold, silver and bronze winners in each category. Voyageur received the silver award in the category of Best Special Feature (in a publication with circulation up to 250,000).
