If you're looking for support, look no further than Bralapalooza 2006. "For women, you need that piece of equipment as much as you need shoes," said Laurey Davis, owner of Fleet Feet Sports on Main Street. Fleet Feet, usually known for athletic shoes, will be hosting a bra-fitting seminar from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Trained professionals will be on hand to address a problem women tend to overlook. "Eighty percent of women wear the wrong sized bra," said Davis. "That's according to Oprah. Isn't Oprah the be-all and end-all of everything?" The seminar is expected to be a festive affair, as appetizers, raffles and music will greet the ladies. For men, it will be a good time to call the poker buddies. Males aren't allowed at Bralapalooza. Davis said bra fitting is a serious topic that sometimes requires direct assistance. Women who are C-cup and larger face nagging problems such as backaches and chafing, which leaves marks on the body. "So when you're in the shower, it's like, 'aah,'" said Davis. Davis tries to have women employees present at all times to help shy customers. For the overly endowed, the store carries the ENELL sports bra, sometimes referred to as "the industrial." Davis recalled a particularly full woman a K-cup who ended up buying the ENELL. "She was sure I couldn't help her," she said. "She was so happy, she said, 'I have to have this.' There are parcels on the side and top so that it's encapsulating the breast, which supports it instead of squishing it." Davis said bra problems can make women too embarrassed to jog. "There are a lot of women who don't run, or they wear two or three bras," she said. Organizers from Avon Walk for Breast Cancer will be on hand to accept donations. Though Fleet Feet Sports has held bra-fitting seminars in the past, Wednesday's Bralapalooza will be the first as part of a campaign throughout Northern California. Other cities hosting Bralapaloozas include Pleasant Hill, San Francisco and Sacramento.
