Motophoto Earns Qualified Digital Processing Center Approval

Monday, May 03, 2004

MOTO Franchise Corporation, the industry's dominant photo and imaging franchisor, has announced that all MotoPhoto stores have earned approval as Qualified Digital Processing Centers (QDPC) from the Photo Marketing Association International (PMA). The approval means that all MotoPhoto franchisees have met the criteria for providing customers with quality prints from digital files. They have invested in the necessary equipment and demonstrated to PMA their ability to print digital photos onsite. "We have been providing digital processing services for some time," said Harry Loyle, President and CEO of MOTO Franchise Corporation. "We felt it was important to obtain the approval because it assures customers that they can get real prints from their digital media at any MotoPhoto location." In addition to printing digital photos, MotoPhoto stores provide customers with tips on taking digital photographs. Their imaging consultants can assist the digital camera user in all aspects of their digital pictures, from pixel resolution requirements to on-line print ordering at MOTOePics.com. Consumers will be able to find their nearest MotoPhoto QDPC through PMA's web-based lab finder at www.prints-are-memories.com website or at motophoto.com. Loyle points out that many people are printing their photos on home printers or storing them on CDs, a risky practice considering the failure rate of technology. The Library of Congress has urged consumers to print their photos, and some people are beginning to listen. According to a recent PMA survey, the number of digital photos being printed on home printers dropped from 83.8 percent in November 2002 to 68 percent in November 2003. During the same period, the number of pictures taken by digital cameras increased by 64 percent.

"Many consumers are printing photos on their home printers, unaware that they can obtain higher quality photos often at lower costfrom a MotoPhoto store," said Loyle. "We'd like to show them how to preserve those precious memories." About MotoPhoto MotoPhoto is an upscale specialty retailer in the photo developing and portrait business.
