For the study, over 1,200 households intending to buy a manufactured home, 500 recent manufactured home purchasers and 200 manufactured home dealers were surveyed. Key areas of opportunity for recent home buyers include the need for: 1. More Energy Efficient Homes: On average, recent purchasers would pay $2,869 more for an energy efficient home, while dealers felt consumers would only pay $1,394 more. In addition: � 85 percent are willing to pay more for an energy efficient home � 85 percent believe an energy efficient home means a high quality home � 82 percent believe buying an energy efficient home was important 2. Quieter Homes: On average, recent purchasers would pay $1,629 more for a home with better noise control, while dealers felt consumers would only pay $642 more. In addition: � 69 percent are willing to pay more for a home with good noise control � 76 percent believe a home with better noise control means a higher quality home � 63 percent believe that buying a home that was very quiet was important 3. Easier Upgrade Options: Ninety-three percent of recent home purchasers said they would prefer a simple and understandable presentation of all of their options when they are preparing to buy a home.
4. A Quality Rating: Seventy-eight percent of recent manufactured home buyers said that they want to buy a well-built, quality home.
5. An Enhanced, Streamlined Purchasing Process: From finding the right dealer, to finding the right home, to financing and follow up, four out of 10 households think the process of purchasing a HUD home is difficult.
"We continue to see significant opportunity for the manufactured housing industry," said Pete Scharfenberg, Owens Corning business manager of manufactured housing.
