Franchise development has been a continuing priority for Mr. Sawada although he admits growth can be slow in Japan . Discussions with Mr. Takashi Suzuki, an air freight forwarder and the new franchise owner in Tokyo, began more than a year ago. Coupled with the fact that real estate is at a premium in Japan and rents can exceed 3 times the average rate in the United State , getting a store open is a timely and tedious process. Mr. Sawada maintains an aggressive goal to eventually establish 50-60 Pak Mail stores throughout the country.
Also, the Pak Mail Center located in Denver , CO at 13 th and Santa Fe has recently become a corporately-owned store. As a full-service packing and shipping center, the Santa Fe Drive center will offer an extensive menu of services and will also be utilized as an adjunct to the training and procedure testing conducted at Pak Mail's International Support Center located in Centennial, CO. Sue Beeler, a former owner of a Pak Mail center, will manage the store and assist in the development of additional programs. "We are looking forward to having a company-owned store in the area. This center will provide a physical location for us to test new promotions, train franchisees and staff in the operation of a Pak Mail in a real-time operating environment, as well as provide a place to demonstrate new products and equipment," says Alex Zai, Pak Mail's Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Established in 1984, Pak Mail is a premier specialty packaging, shipping and business support franchise with 400 centers operating in the United States and 95 international locations in four countries.
