Mass Mentoring with Style: Abrakadoodle Models Masters' Art Techniques for Children

Following the axiom that good ideas should be shared, Abrakadoodle, a national innovator in children's art education, is partnering with great contemporary artists, Artists of Distinction, as part of its instructional programs (see www.abrakadoodle.com/aodnew.html). These artists provide insights about their styles, creative vision and serve as experts to Abrakadoodle.

"I am very proud of our Artists of Distinction program," remarked Abrakadoodle's Founder & CEO Mary C. Rogers, MA. Ed. "These creative luminaries are mentoring children in Abrakadoodle's classes by enabling us to connect their unique artistic approaches in a way that is age-appropriate and engaging." Rogers added, "We are very fortunate to have Artist of Distinction Lori Schue leading our curriculum development." Abrakadoodle's Artists of Distinction currently include: Mort Solberg, Award-Winning Painter Korky Paul, British Children's Book Illustrator Lisa Cherkasky, Food Designer and Author Lori Schue, Fine Artist and Author Myrna Hoffman, Award-Winning Educational Toy Designer Mort Solberg, nationally acclaimed wildlife artist and Abrakadoodle's first "Artist of Distinction," participated in Abrakadoodle's 1st Annual Conference in May. He delivered a keynote address and also led hands-on sessions on his artistic techniques. Mort Solberg paints in oil, acrylic, and watercolor and his techniques range from photo-realism to total abstraction. Mort's work is represented in such collections as the Smithsonian Institution, National Gallery of Art, and many private and public collections.

"Watercolors do not have to be a difficult medium for children," Solberg said. "Working with Abrakadoodle is very gratifying because so many children can learn about my style and technique in a kid-friendly way." About Mort Solberg Wildly creative Mort Solberg (www.mortenesolberg.com/index.htm) always imagined himself as an artist. The Southern Californian's many interests are reflected in his art, which he has been dedicated to on a full time basis since 1971. He is fascinated by American Indian history and culture, perhaps because he has an Indian Chief's daughter and Norwegian whalers and explorers among his great grandparents. Wildlife, romantic women with parasols, flowers, fishermen, cowboys, and American Indians have inspired him with continuous colors and shapes with which to design. Mort's work has received the highest praises and prizes in such exhibitions as the Society of Animal Artists, the American Watercolor Society, and the National Watercolor Society. You can see Mort Solberg originals by visiting the John Demott Gallery in Vail, CO, Gallery Jamel in Waldorf, MD, the Meyer Gallery in Park City, UT, the Russell A. Fink Gallery in Lorton, VA, as well as the Nichols Taos Fine Art Gallery in Taos, NM, among others.

About Abrakadoodle Established in 2002, Abrakadoodle (www.abrakadoodle.com) classes deliver comprehensive art experiences that immerse students in a broad landscape of activities including painting, collage, sculpture, mosaics, and more. While Abrakadoodle emphasizes active learning, its presentation of students' final projects with such products as FrameDoodles has earned praise from parents and participants alike. The magic behind Abrakadoodle is the creative energy between a child and his/her art materials ignited by a well-trained teacher. Artist Lori Schue, author of the popular book series Artworks for Kids, and educator/award-winning franchise developer Mary Rogers, M.Ed, created Abrakadoodle's imaginative national curriculum.
