Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associates Counsel Travelers to "Know Before You Go" During Busy Holiday Season

With many Americans about to make their first pilgrimage of the year via air over Thanksgiving and subsequent Holidays, Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associates today are urging their customers to "Know Before You Go" by providing them with the 3-1-1 on Holiday travel. The 3-1-1 refers to the Transportation Security Administration's guidelines that limit each passenger to three ounce bottles or less, one quart-sized clear plastic zip-top bag, and one bag placed in the screening bins at security.

"We realize that this Thanksgiving will mark the first time many of our customers will have traveled since the TSA instituted new policies regarding liquids and gels allowable in carry-on bags," stated Roger E. Block, executive vice president of Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associate Division. "We're not only providing them with the ‘3-1-1,' but we're also advising our customers to be prepared to check more bagsincluding for most liquids and gelsas well as to allow for more time at checkpoints." Block encouraged customers to get to the airport early and exercise patience, particularly as the heavy volume of travelers coupled with the enhanced security guidelines would likely make for longer lines at both check-in and security. "TSA reminds us that each time they must search a carry-on bag, it further slows the process. Thus they recommend carrying-on only what you truly need, as well as adhering to the 3-1-1 to speed you on your way," Block explained. "It also bears noting that all gift-wrapped presents are subject to screening, and most bottles of alcohol must be checked." The Transportation Security Administration advises the following: 3-1-1 on air travel = 3 ounce bottle or less; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measure. Consolidate bottles into one bag and X-ray separately to speed screening. Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience. 3-1-1 is for short trips. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage. Declare larger liquids. Prescription medications, baby formula and milk are allowed in quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint. Come early and be patient. Heavy travel volumes and the enhanced security process may mean longer lines at security checkpoints.
