Build A Community

Thursday, January 18, 2007

Do you have a key person who has made a difference in your life or you've had a major impact on their life? They have a dazzling approach to business, yet these amazing professionals who you have worked with have never passed you a referral. So you might jump to a conclusion that these professionals apparently don't believe in the concept of: Givers Gain.

What I've come to realize over the years is that there is so much to know about being a word-of-mouth marketer, about being a referral based business owner and a networker that many professionals have never been trained in a referral system, let alone the "Givers Gain" philosophy. They simply must learn how to share this information with their clients, friends and their associates.

At the Referral Institute we help build referral communities through what we call the Referral Mastery System that brings only the most qualified people who want to do business with you into your community. This group of professionals is trained "together" at a higher level to build their own relationships and become the professionals who will refer each other a lifetime of referrals. Thus building a community of networkers which will continue to build on itself where expectations and demands to perform are high.

I've found when you try to appeal to someone, anyone, and everyone with your multiple streams of products and services, smart people will not take you seriously. And why should they? You have no identity in their mind. Results? No trust. No loyalty. No network. Your clients are easy targets for some narrowly focused Networker. You waste time and money searching for more opportunities to create a stream of customers. But a loss of focus = loss of power. You ruin your quality perception, because, to consumers, specializing = quality. You're a mile wide and an inch deep. You're weak everywhere instead of strongly focused. But a strong, well trained community will be hyper focused on each others needs and will share continuously.

In Masters Of Networking, my co-author, Dr. Ivan Misner, says: "Successful people do not achieve their success on their own; instead, they surround themselves with a well-developed, sophisticated support network." As you build these communities don't only look for professionals who can help you reach your goals, but also will help with your personal and professional life: who is the best lawn service, who is the best CPA, who is the best caf, who is the best connector and who is the best networker that you know. Dr. Ivan Misner is the Founder & Chairman of BNI or Business Network Int'l. BNI was founded in 1985. The organization now has over thousands of chapters throughout every populated continent of the world. Each year, BNI generates millions of referrals resulting in billions dollars worth of business for its members. Dr. Misner's Ph.D. is from the University of Southern California. He has written eight books, including his New York Times bestseller; Masters of Networking and his #1 bestseller; Masters of Success. He is a monthly columnist for Entrepreneur.com and is Chairman of the Board for the Referral Institute a referral training company with trainers around the world. He has taught business and social capital courses at several universities and sits on the Board of Directors for the Colorado School of Professional Psychology.

Patrick Carney is a professional artist, networker, speaker and referral training consultant. He owns the Referral Institute - San Diego. In each of these roles, his focus is showing business professionals how to harness the power of referral marketing to drive healthy business growth.

No one function can be accountable for performance. It is the interconnection of everything and the combined strength of the management team
