Area Hotelier Plans Growth

BIRMINGHAM | Friday, October 13, 2006

When the management of Jackson Hospitality Services decided to establish its own chain of hotels in 1989, it wasn't difficult to understand why Boaz, Ala., seemed like the perfect place to inaugurate Key West Inns. The small town's factory outlet stores, which still do a respectable business, were on fire at the time. With shoppers arriving by the busload, says Key West Inns President Neal B. Jackson, whose father, Cory G. Jackson Sr., founded Jackson Hospitality Services and remains its CEO, that first hotel was successful from day one. Today, there are 14 Key West Inns in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida, and all of them are now owned by franchisees rather than the Birmingham-based management company. In the past several months, Neal Jackson has been implementing a number of strategies that he hopes will enable the chain to reach the 50-hotel mark by the end of 2008. "That's a very aggressive growth plan, obviously," he said in a recent interview, "and the only way we can do that is Welcome strategy Management" The company believes taking care of franchisees is key to growing economy hotel brand throughout the Southeast "Key West Inns has a very aggressive growth plan," says President Neal B. Jackson. Jackson's father, Cory G. Jackson Sr., is also a hotelier.
