The local owners of the New Horizons Computer Learning Centers franchise in San Antonio and Austin have bought out the New Horizons franchise in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Financial terms of the acquisition was not disclosed. All three operations are franchises of Anaheim, Calif.-based New Horizons Computer Learning Centers Inc. (Pink Sheets: NEWH), a company that provides computer and information technology classes worldwide. By acquiring the New Horizons franchise in the Dallas area, business partners Derek K. Wright, Robert A. Dupree and Scott A. Hardin now own the largest independent provider of information technology training in the Metroplex. The North Texas franchise operates two training centers: one in the Prestonwood Tower in Dallas and another at the intersection of International Plaza Drive at Overton Plaza in Fort Worth. The Dallas/Fort Worth centers began operations in 1992. The three partners, Wright, Dupree and Hardin, have established a newly formed corporation, North Texas Horizons LLC, to assume control over the Dallas operations on June 1. By owning New Horizons franchises in Austin, San Antonio and Dallas, Wright, Dupree and Hardin now own the largest independent training company in Texas and the Southwest United States. Under the newly expanded operations, Wright will continue to serve as president of the Austin and San Antonio franchises. Dupree will continue to be general manager of Austin and Hardin will remain general manager of San Antonio. The partners are keeping Bill Markman on board as general manager of New Horizons of Dallas/Fort Worth. The Dallas/Fort Worth franchise has always been a top performing center in the New Horizons global network, Wright says. Now that the North Texas franchise will be combined with the operations in Austin and San Antonio, the ownership group will be able to offer IT training to employers along the entire Interstate 35 corridor from Oklahoma to the Rio Grande, he says.
