Coshocton Pizzeria Creates Wedding Pizza

COSHOCTON | Monday, July 23, 2007

Karen McMillen, owner of Coshocton's East of Chicago Pizza, enjoys being creative and cooking. On Friday, she combined both passions to make a wedding pizza.

The three-tiered pizza was a test for the real one she'll be making today for a wedding celebration to be held at the Moose Lodge on Main Street.

ADVERTISEMENT "Anytime I can help someone out, I'm all over it," McMillen said. The bottom pizza is adorned with flowers - made out of ham, pepperoni, peppers and black olives. The second pizza has a flower made out of tomatoes, black olives and peppers, while the third pizza has a ring of pepperoni around the edge. Once cooled, they will be topped with a bride and groom, just like traditional wedding cakes.

The couple celebrating their union left the design up to McMillen.

"I'm just creating," she said. "They told me to use my own discretion." Together, the three pizzas will serve about 20 people.

McMillen said this is the first time anyone at East of Chicago has created a wedding pizza.

"Corporate wants a picture when it's done," she said.

McMillen, however, is known for creating new items for the menu.

"I'm always into something," she said. "You never know what I'm going to do." In the past McMillen has made black raspberry, peach cobbler and breakfast pizzas.

"I've had a lot of requests for the breakfast pizzas when we move to a dining room and buffet," she said.

According to McMillen, East of Chicago will move to a new building in September. Their new location is in the process of being built across from McDonald's on Chestnut Street.

"It also will give us space for a banquet facility that can be used for parties," McMillen said.

In the future, she'd also be willing to take more orders for wedding pizzas.

"I love cooking," McMillen said.

East of Chicago is currently located at 750 Second St. and is run by McMillen and her husband Kurt.
