Fast-casual sandwich franchise Earl of Sandwich announced today a development deal with Earl of San Antonio, LLC to open 12 restaurants in the San Antonio DMA. Earl of San Antonio, LLC is headed by hotelier and restaurateur Margaret Moreno. The first location is projected to open in October 2007 in San Antonio next to the HEB Plus store located at The Village at Blanco Shopping Center situated on 1160 North 1604. The second location is projected to open fall 2008 at Park North located at SEC 410 & Blanco. Earl of San Antonio, LLC plans on opening a restaurant every nine months. "We are pleased to have Earl of San Antonio, LLC join our growing franchise partnership," said Michael Grodi, CEO for Earl of Sandwich. "Margaret is a dynamic entrepreneur with a proven track record and her vast knowledge of San Antonio will ensure our success in that market. This strengthens our plan to reclaim the sandwich world!" The San Antonio development agreement with Earl of San Antonio is part of a national expansion plan for Earl of Sandwich, whose flagship, corporate-owned location in the Downtown Disney Marketplace in Orlando has served the world's most popular quick food to standing-room-only crowds. The next corporate location in Las Vegas, Nevada located inside the newly re-branded and remodeled Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino will open in August 2007 with additional franchise restaurants opening in September 2007 in Ann Arbor, MI. Another area of development for Earl of Sandwich in 2007 will include five locations in Jacksonville, Florida. "Earl of Sandwich produces the best sandwich I have ever eaten and with their incredibly detailed operational system, it really will take the San Antonio market by storm," said Margaret Moreno. Founded in 2004, Earl of Sandwich has collaborated with John Montagu, a direct descendant of the fourth Earl of Sandwich, the man credited with inventing the sandwich in 1762. More than 240 years later, John Montagu, the 11th Earl of Sandwich, and his son, Orlando, are re-inventing and reclaiming their culinary namesake. The fast food landscape continues to evolve, and one of the most dynamic segments within the Quick Serve Restaurants (QSR) market continues to be the growth in sandwiches, subs and wraps. According to Technomic Inc., a Chicago-based restaurant-industry consulting firm, U.S. sales in the sandwich segment grew from $13 billion in 2000 to more than $17.3 billion in 2003--a compounded annual growth rate of 9.9 percent. A Menu for Success Earl of Sandwich uses the same artisan freshly baked bread for its 16 signature hot sandwiches, which all sell for $5.75. Best sellers include "The Original" with fresh roasted beef, cheddar and creamy horseradish sauce; "The Earl's Club" of turkey, apple-smoked bacon, Swiss, lettuce, tomato and "sandwich sauce," and "The Full Montagu," which is roast beef and turkey with cheddar, Swiss, romaine, tomato and English mustard sauce. Certified Angus Beef is slow roasted and sliced on the premises every day. The fresh tossed bowl salads are tossed to order and the restaurant bakes fresh muffin crowns, cookies, brownies and cup cakes daily. The desserts are made in-house and include strawberry shortcake, ice cream sandwiches, yogurt parfaits and fresh fruit cups. A full breakfast offering is also available and beverages include fruit smoothies and brewed, iced teas and lemonades. For more information, visit www.earlofsandwichusa.com or call 1-877-4AN-EARL.
