The Madison Chamber of Commerce and Organization of Small Business Owners Inc. are coordinating the event. Gene Pospicil explained that the event is not just for chamber members. "This series of presentations and workshops will be valuable to anyone now in business or considering their own business," he said. Pospicil, a financial consultant with Raymond James Financial Services, serves as business development director for the chamber and is coordinating the event.
"We believe the quality of the presenters can add a valuable experience to managers and owners of large national and international corporations, as well as give useful insight to those exploring a business venture for the first time," Poscipil said.
By collaborating with OSBO, the chamber hopes to reach all of North Alabama with this information. "We know that what is good for our region ultimately is good for us in Madison," Pospicil said. Registration starts at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast with keynote speaker Tana Torrano, MarketVision president and OSBO president.
Workshops will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with Torrano's "Marketing on a Shoestring Budget." Camille Mueller, DCM Management Inc. owner, will speak on "Starting Your Own Business." Bob Crook, Small Business Solutions' chief executive officer, will present "Small Business Accounting." A second round of workshops at 10:45 a.m. will begin with "Identity Theft and Your Business" by FBI Agent Charles Wingo. Discussing "Hiring Good Employees" will be Sheila Collins, HR Solutions president, and Kate Jones, MSC Consulting Inc. vice president. Jack Wright with Redstone Federal Credit Union will present "Small Business Administration Financing." During lunch, the keynote speaker is Tim Knox, radio host and author of "Everything I Know about Business I Learned from My Mama" and "Biscuits and Bizness." Afternoon presentations include Paul Finley, FINS Marketing owner, "Making It All Fit Together"; Mueller, "Starting Your Own Business" and Crook, "Small Business Accounting"; Mike Sandy, author and small-business owner, "I'm Finally in Business for Myself ... NOW WHAT?"; Torrano, "Marketing on a Shoestring Budget" and Cindy Harbin, Redstone Federal Credit Union, "Understanding Your Credit." Attorney Richard Duell, Duell Law Firm, will start the last sessions with "Franchising Your Business." Susan Holliday's presentation will be "Leadership Skills," followed by Shannon Belew, author and columnist, presenting "Taking Your Business Online." A question-and-answer session will be conducted with a panel of six symposium speakers at 5:30 p.m. To wrap up the symposium, "Networking by the Pool" starts at 6:30 p.m. with hamburgers, hot dogs and a cash bar on the hotel patio.
