From the name of Manny's Neighborhood Grill, you'd guess that this is a comfortable neighborhood restaurant, and that is certainly true, but Manny's is more than that. It's a "Greek/American" restaurant that offers a dizzying array of dishes, ranging from classic Greek specialties to classic American bar food, in the form of tasty meals at gentle prices. The appetizer section of the menu alone lists a stunning 32 items. Having eaten at Manny's dozens of times over the past 10 years, I am still nowhere near sampling everything they offer. Choose chicken fingers ($4.99), nachos ($5.29), or chicken wings (12 for $5.99), or go Greek with stuffed grape leaves ($3.99) or falafel ($4.99). Sandwiches (all 37 of them) include classic burgers, clubs and chicken sandwiches ($5-$6 each), as well as Souvlaki, a variety of other pita bread sandwiches, and of course, the gyro. Greek specialties range from very good rotisserie chicken (half, $8.29), to moussaka and pastitsio ($7.99 each). By now, I hope you get the idea that Manny's has something for pretty much everybody -- there are pizzas, calzones and quesadillas. There are pastas, seafood and salads. There are rib-eyes, filets and hamburger steaks. Don't think, however, that the choices end with the menu. Manny's also has a bustling bar business and a heroic collection of televisions. A wide range of beer, wine and liquor is available, and there are no less than 42 televisions in the place, including a "private" screen at each booth. The good news is that with all the variety quality does not suffer.
The gyro ($5.49) is very good, as are the pizzas ($10-$13), as is the Greek Salad ($5.99); on and on it goes. Folks in West Ashley should consider themselves fortunate to have Manny's as their "neighborhood grill."
