CoachMeFit Franchise Corporation recently signed agreements with its first franchisee. The new studio will be located in Birmingham, MI. and is on-track for a November opening. The original CoachMeFit studio opened in Ann Arbor in 2001, and the franchise corporation launched in February 2007. In addition to the Birmingham location, franchises are under development in Plymouth, and another second one in Ann Arbor bringing the total number in Michigan to four by the end of 2007. CoachMeFit focuses on providing a professional level of personal training in a non-intimidating environment. Sessions are customized to meet the client's individual goals and level of fitness. The Ann Arbor location also offers nutritional counseling. New franchises may expand their services to include group fitness options. In the six years since CoachMeFit Ann Arbor's inception, the studio doubled in size and currently employs 11 certified trainers. The success of CoachMeFit reflects a national trend in the fitness industry. The number of people who paid for personal training services rose 53% between 1999 and 2005. With the aging of the population, the number of people who seek out more private environments to work out, and realize the need for personalized instruction continues to grow. Lindsay Bogdasarian, president of the CoachMeFit Franchise Corporation, stated "Many people find that it is much easier to stick with an exercise routine when you are accountable to someone. When people work with a personal trainer by appointment, they show up, get a much better workout than they would on their own and make significant progress faster. This is going to continue to increase the demand for personal training studios." The CoachMeFit Franchise Corporation is carefully selecting owners that share in the vision of providing the highest level of personal training to clients of all ages and levels of fitness. Derek and Kerrie DiGiovanni, the owners of the Birmingham location are new to owning a business. Derek is the head of the Physical Education Department for Birmingham Public Schools. An NSCA-certified personal trainer, he has been president of the Michigan Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dancea state-wide organization that promotes fitness education. Kerrie, who worked as a mechanical engineer is completing her certification and will also be a trainer at the new studio. In August, they begin an extensive training program in the operations, management and marketing aspects of running a CoachMeFit at the Ann Arbor facility.
