The Lehigh Valley branch of the Paul Green School of Rock Music is just days from its soft opening on March 5.
Owners Ray and Sue Thierrin founded the local branch of the national chain after being amazed at how their 17-year-old son fell in love with music at a rock school.
Sue Thierrin said she hopes the Easton school will give area children between the ages of 7 and 18 an avenue to express their musical talents. Thierrin said there are also plans to start a ''grad-school'' level for those over 18.
The Easton location is tucked away at 19 S. Bank St., an alley next to the Purple Cow Creamery.
The Paul Green School of Rock was formed in 1998 and has dozens of locations around the nation. You hear the word ''school of rock'' and imagine actor Jack Black playing character Dewey Finn in that 2003 comedy called ''The School of Rock''? There is no Jack Black coming to Easton, rather the music director is Albie Monterrosa, founder of deSoL, a New Jersey rock band with a Latino soul.
Monterrosa said the school will consist of numerous learning studios and instruments, where the pupils learns the history of the art of rock 'n' roll as well as practicing it. Every few months the school hosts a student-run live performance where they play beats by bands such as Pink Floyd.
Thierrin said if the Easton location is successful she will consider adding another location in the Lehigh Valley, perhaps in the Center Valley area.
