Home furnishings giant, IKEA, recently invited KidzArt to play a part in their 25th anniversary celebration in Kuwait. As part of IKEA's social responsibility program and its recent anniversary festivities, KidzArt provided art classes for over 250 children in a gallery at the main entrance of the IKEA store in Kuwait.
According to Waqar Bhuta, IKEA marketing manager, "I wanted the KidzArt classes to be conducted in the central location of the store because I wanted the parents to be inspired." The KidzArt classes at IKEA were surrounded by transparent partitions plastered with the KidzArt logo, so parents and the public could view the children's creativity in action. With over 10,000 visitors passing through the store over the weekend, hundreds of children took part in the drawing, painting and activities that KidzArt offered. IKEA is planning to display the children's KidzArt drawings in a gallery at the store and use them in the creation of a calendar.
"Striving for a better society starts by improving its roots, which are in this case the new generation," said IKEA Kuwait general manager, Mr. Adel Al Shamali. "This allowed the kids to have the freedom to break down all the society's obstacles and be as creative as they want. Our main focus in this event was to push the kids to reveal their deepest hidden creative talents and teach them how to manage those in their professional and personal lives." In Singapore, Toys R US is promoting KidzArt birthday parties by displaying flyers in their six area stores in addition to a mention on their Web site. Toys R Us is also offering a discounted party rate to their loyalty card holders.
According to KidzArt president, Ms. Shell Herman, "In partnering with KidzArt, IKEA and Toys R Us have shown that they recognize the importance of fostering art and creativity in kids and how beneficial it is in the long run. " KidzArt, an international, multi-cultural art education program, provides after school art classes, summer camps and birthday parties for kids of all ages. The classes provide children with a guided foundation for drawing, creating multi-media, two and three-dimension art projects and also teach brainstorming and creative thinking.
"KidzArt classes allows kids to explore, express and be motivated by their artwork in a noncompetitive environment," says Herman.
