The company has had a strong presence in New York since 1984 when it opened its first caf out of the Boston area in Manhattan. Since then, Au Bon Pain's regional presence in New York has grown to include cafs throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn and Long Island.
"With 65,000 ferry commuters and tourists passing through the terminal daily, the St. George Terminal is an excellent location for a quality food operation like Au Bon Pain," New York City Economic Development Corporation president Seth W. Pinsky said in a news release. "The residents and visitors to Staten Island are sure to appreciate the delicious and nutritious food choices. We whole heartedly welcome Au Bon Pain to Staten Island." At lunch, the caf offers a soup bar with eight choices daily, counter service for ordering sandwiches and rice bowls, and a refrigerated case stocked with salads and pre-made sandwiches. The self-serve bakery case displays freshly made cookies, pastries and other sweet treats.
