Learning Experience Offers Supportive Franchise Opportunity

Saturday, May 15, 2010

For the month of May, the theme at The Learning Experience Child Development Center on Route 18 is "Fairy Tales." The American Red Cross Students will be learning fairy tales and nursery rhymes, said Alicia Pavlik, the compliance area manager for The Learning Experience.

"It will be put into our educational aspect," Pavlik said.

About 60 children are enrolled in the East Brunswick center, which has a staff of 12.

The center partners with different employers providing discounts to employees, through their Work and Family program. Discount service programs include emergency back up care, extended care, holiday care and on site lunch and learn.

"I think the best part about working in a child development center is building relationships with parents and families," said Mindy Shapow, the center director. "That's what we have here ... really nice relationships with all the families." The East Brunswick center is one of the corporate-owned centers of The Learning Experience, which is headquartered in Florida.

Other Central Jersey centers are in Edison, Matawan, North Brunswick and the Somerset section of Franklin.

New centers also are scheduled to open in Piscataway and Sayreville, Pavlik said.

The Learning Experience was established in the state of Florida in 1979 by Michael and Linda Weissman. Their son, Richard, later joined the company.

A blue elephant named Bubbles serves as the mascot for the company's nearly 80 locations in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina and Virginia markets.

The company offers franchise opportunities.

"The benefit of owning a franchise is that the franchisee has a fantastic support system to help them grow their business," Pavlik said. "This includes a tremendous amount of support whenever it is needed from our corporate company." The company also trains all staff, helps franchisees set up their business and get licensed, among other things.

The staff is all trained in child development, CPR and first-aid certified, she said.

The centers follow the proprietary L.E.A.P. (Learning Experience Academic Program) curriculum, which includes a wide variety of experiences in which the child learns about himself or herself and their world.
