Mister Sparky Franchise Opens In St. Louis

Bob Peat and Brooke Schoene opened the first Mister Sparky franchise in St. Louis.

The parent company is Peat's St. Louis-based RJP Electric, which does industrial and commercial electrical work.

"We are trying to increase the residential side of the business so that's why we opened a Mister Sparky franchise," said Schoene, who previously worked for a Mister Sparky corporate office before becoming general manager of the St. Louis franchise.

RJP Electric reported $11 million in revenue last year.

The St. Louis franchise, which opened last month, employs four and will probably add another technician later this year, Schoene said.

"We decided St. Louis needed something like this," she said. "We don't charge by the hour. We have straightforward pricing so clients aren't always checking the clock." Sarasota, Fla.-based Mister Sparky started in 1996 in Atlanta and now has 120 franchises nationwide.

Mister Sparky was recently featured on "The Celebrity Apprentice" with Donald Trump. Participants on that show produced the now famous jingle featuring their phone number, "88-88 Sparky."
