Marriott Inks Brazil Development Deal For Fairfield Hotels

Marriott International has signed a partnership with PDG Realty, Brazil's largest real estate development company, to develop 50 Fairfield by Marriott hotels throughout Brazil.

Each new hotel will be built with a focus on saving energy and minimizing its impact on the environment, Marriott said. Additionally, both Marriott and PDG Realty have agreed to make financial contributions for each hotel constructed to support Amazon rain forest preservation through the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation.

Brazil is one of the largest growth markets in the Americas for the hotel industry, fueled by rising domestic travel as well as its position as host city to both the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics Marriott and PDG have have identified the potential to develop 50 Fairfield hotels in Brazil, said Arne Sorenson, president and chief operating officer of Marriott International.

Guilherme Cesari, Marriott's vice president of development for Brazil, said the transaction "reflects Marriott's commitment to Brazil and focus on the unmet needs of the Brazilian traveler, and provides for an efficient development platform for growth." Marriott currently has four hotels in Brazil: the JW Marriott Hotel Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo Airport Marriott Hotel, Renaissance Hotel Sao Paulo and the Marriott Executive Apartments Sao Paulo.

Fairfield is Marriott's leading brand in the midprice lodging segment and the eighth brand in the company's lodging portfolio to be developed outside the U.S.
