When faced with the tough decision to renew a lease or buy a new building for his fast growing home medical equipment business, 31-year-old Hal Mykolaishyn chose to do the latter. "Purchasing 3,000 sq. ft. of store space at 110, 1368 Kingsway (Port Coquitlam) has turned out to be the right move at the right time for the growth of our franchise," says Mykolaishyn. Hal Mykolaishyn has positioned MEDIchair Tri City for continued growth in 2011.

It's hard to argue with a winning strategy. In 2010, MEDIchair Tri City was ranked among the fastest growing MEDIchair franchises in British Columbia, in terms of sales growth. Following the move to larger premises in November, Mykolaishyn believes his business is well positioned to continue with its fast-paced growth in 2011.

A key strategy moving forward was to create a fresh look for his new store. To accomplish that, he borrowed the best design ideas from MEDIchair stores across Canada that had won design awards from MEDIchair's head office. He also incorporated design concepts that he liked from people-focussed businesses such as restaurants.

"I've used the best design and layout elements I could find and combined them with soft colours, beechwood floors, Italian tiles, huge glass walls and 30 foot high ceilings to create a warm, relaxing space where our customers can feel right at home." The store's spacious layout allows customers to ‘test drive' a variety of products before purchase. Some of the individual product areas include lift chairs; bedroom products; scooters; wheelchairs and walkers.

In addition to the store's fresh design, Mykolaishyn attributes his ongoing sales success to knowledgeable staff, strong community involvement and a focus on wheelchair sales.
