Round Table Pizza, a locally owned franchise here since 1975, has organized three programs to raise money for sports programs at Chico High and Pleasant Valley High schools. "It's important as a business community that we do what we can for the community," said Teri Ernandes, marketing director for Sisco Enterprises of Chico, which owns the Round Table Pizzas in Chico.
From April 21 to May 13, $20 coupons are being sold by students for one of three pizzas. The coupons must be redeemed before June 30. At least 60 percent of each $20 coupon goes to the designated school.
From April 21 to May 10, individuals can go to the Chico Round Table Pizza's Facebook page and click on the "Like" button. For each new "Like," Round Table will pay $1, up to $1,000, for each school. Chico High has April 21-30, and Pleasant Valley has May 1-10. The different periods differentiate the schools to benefit.
The Facebook page is https://www.facebook .com/RTPChico.
From April 21 to May 31, consumers eating at the three Chico stores can add a donation to the cost of their purchase by buying an icon. Round Table will divide that funding evenly between the two schools.
Additionally, Round Table is challenging other local businesses to come up some kind of high school sports fundraiser. Ernandes pointed out whatever a person's feeling is about Advertisement sports in schools, it's still a matter of the community supporting schools.
"This is really for all the community, not just Chico High and Pleasant Valley students," said Ernandes, pointing to examples such as state and national Chico High wrestler Nahshon Garrett, whose accomplishments in sports has made a tremendous impact in his life.
It's also about the community supporting businesses that step up with programs such as this, she said.
The local Round Table Pizza has provided fundraising opportunities for youth and nonprofit programs since its inception in 1975. Ernandes estimated that at least half a million dollars has been raised for those efforts through the local franchise. Ernandes said a final amount raised will be announced to the public in early June.
Anyone with questions can call Ernandes at 895-8140 ext. 319 or either school's athletic directors.
Sports programs at the two high schools are struggling because of the school districts financial difficulties.
