The events across the country are intended to honor dogs and people who love them by reminding pet owners what it means to be a dog parent and how to get the most out of the special bond between handler and canine companion. Millions of dogs are euthanized each year, many of which would make wonderful family pets, but are given up due to behavioral problems and lack of training.
As part of the American Kennel Club's Responsible Dog Ownership Day held each September, the Zoom Room aims to educate first-time dog owners about the responsibilities of dog ownership and to help current owners enhance their relationships with their pets. Each Zoom Room location will host a variety of activities that help families engage with their dogs and allow owners to speak one-on-one with experienced dog trainers and experts in nutrition, behavior, health and other important pet topics.
"Every day at the Zoom Room is Responsible Dog Ownership Day," said Mark Van Wye, chief operating officer of the Zoom Room, "One of the best things about our business is that it's a magnet for responsible dog owners." Classes at the Zoom Room are meant for those who love to spend time with their pets and learn how to better train them, he added. "Because all the products we offer are specifically tailored to improving the health, safety, comfort and training of your dog, we also attract dog owners who truly are seeking out the best possible quality of life for their companion," said Van Wye.
Zoom Room locations from California to Wisconsin will hold tricks contests, agility classes, Doggy Disco parties, pet first aid seminars, low-cost microchipping clinics, canine massage sessions, and more to give dogs and their owners a chance to spend a fun day together and strengthen their bond. In addition, each Zoom Room will host a variety of local pet vendors such as notable authors, veterinarians, groomers, and rescue groups with adoptable dogs.
"Being a responsible dog owner takes many forms. It means adopting, whenever possible, starting training early with positive reinforcement, microchipping and spaying or neutering your pet," said Van Wye. "Just like humans, the right diet and physical fitness is also a part of the puzzle. Getting regular exercise with your dog is a great way to bond and to improve your pet's health and happiness." Responsible Dog Ownership Day events will be held at Zoom Room locations in Hollywood, CA; Culver City, CA; Monterey Bay, CA; Longmont, CO; Austin, TX; Coconut Creek, FL and Milwaukee, WI. Events run throughout September and early October.
