Krispy Kreme Franchise Holder Plans More Stores In Phillipines

The company behind the Krispy Kreme brand in the Phillipines is opening up to 10 new outlets this year -- mostly in the Visayas and Mindanao area -- as it opened its 40th store in the Philippines in SM Lanang Premier here late last month, a company officer said in a recent interview.

The Real American Doughnut Co., said April Stephanie B. Elumba of the firm's Local Relationship Marketing Division, is looking for more areas in this city and elsewhere in Mindanao it can branch out to. For an area to be considered as site for a new store, "foot traffic must be high," Ms. Elumba said.

She cited the success of the outlet in SM City Davao which has a drive-through section. "We did not expect the positive demand," Ms. Elumba recalled, noting that the drive-through "even broke records," although she declined to provide figures. She added that the company is "still not open to franchises" as it is looking to build up stability even after it opened its first store in Bonifacio High Street in Taguig City back in 2007. The company opened its first store in the Visayas at Ayala Center Cebu in Cebu City in October 2011.
