"I just really missed being around the game," he says.
Alexander played college soccer at Western Kentucky and had a few stints with various professional clubs before moving to Danville, Va., where his wife was from. His father is a nurse, and so he thought that would be a good profession for him, but a friend of his in Texas had been asking him to work at a Soccer Shots franchise out there.
Alexander and his wife thought about it, and decided they liked the idea so much that they would just buy a franchise themselves. For the initial fee of $16,500, the Alexanders chose the Triangle as a good place to set up their goals.
Under the Soccer Shots model, the franchise owner typically partners with area pre-schools and kindergartens to run small soccer clinics. The target ages are about 3 years to 8 years, and Alexander says he tries to teach good character as well.
So far he's done only a four-week abbreviated program with six area schools, but hopes to ramp up branding throughout the winter to be ready in full by the spring.
"This is a great soccer area," Alexander says. "Soccer already being here means parents already know about it," he adds, which should help get his business off the ground.
