Supplement Superstore gets first franchise in Columbia

Business partners Braden Posey and Phillip Steward like to think they have something for everyone at the supplement store they opened Wednesday.

Posey and Steward, both of Columbia, opened a Supplement Superstore location at 2910 Trimble Road, Suite 107. The store is a franchise of Springfield-based Supplement Superstore. Although the supplement chain has 13 other locations in Missouri and Illinois, the Columbia spot is the brand's first franchise.

"We kind of cater to everybody, honestly," Posey said. We"�re "not strictly a body building store. We deal with everything from older people trying to stay healthy and maintain maximum independence in their life all the way down to kids who want to do body building shows to moms and dads trying to lose weight after they have their children." Supplement Superstore sells fitness supplements. It requires its employees to be certified sports nutrition specialists and personal trainers with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. The employees offer advice on workouts and nutrition plans.

The company now owns 14 stores, with most of its locations in Missouri, but a few in Illinois.

The Columbia store has three people on staff including the two franchise owners.

Posey said he plans on growing the staff as business picks up.

"It's a great location, good visibility, right off the highway in a really growing part of town," he said.
