Career: quality supervisor and quality engineer with NYX Inc. in Detroit and Shreveport, La., 2002-06; moved to Virginia in 2006 to work for Carbone Kirkwood in Farmville; quality leader with QubicaAMF, 2007-10; quality manager for Closure Systems International, 2010-13; quality engineer with Kaiser Aluminum, 2014; became Pirtek franchise owner in 2015.
Where do you live? Midlothian.
Best business decision: "Was to start a business in something that I could relate with, that is in a niche sector, and one that brings value to the customer. I believe being in manufacturing has prepared me very well on how to sell my products and services to my target audience."
Worst business decision: "Not starting my business sooner. I had thought about doing a business a few years back but did not pursue it all the way. Now that I have, I am learning so much and having fun doing it."
Mistake you learned the most from: "When I lost two technicians before training even began, I realized that I always need to have a backup plan for everything."
What is the biggest challenge/opportunity for you in the next two to five years? "Short-term challenge is to put the Pirtek name out there and let people know what it is that we do. Longer-term would be to decide if the Richmond market can bear another Pirtek center."
First job after college: quality supervisor with NYX Inc. in Michigan.
If you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently? "I wouldn"t do anything differently because I believe that everything happens for a reason. So whatever I did has led me to this point, and changing anything would/could have altered what I am doing today."
Movie that inspired you the most, and why? "Slumdog Millionaire." "Because no matter how crappy you think your life is, your life experiences will always help you out and everything happens for a reason. You may not know it at the time, but ultimately you'll find out."
Favorite/least favorite subject in school: Favorite: math. Least favorite: math, "because it is math."
