Madame Nhu: Vietnamese Pioneer Celebrates 1 Million Rice Paper Rolls Sold, Launches More Stores

Monday, November 16, 2015

Vietnamese food pioneer, Madame Nhu, today celebrates its 1 million rice paper rolls sold since 2007.

Rice paper rolls, also called summer rolls, are Vietnamese rice vermicelli salads wrapped in translucent rice flour "paper". This dish is now gaining wide popularity throughout Australia.

"Madame Nhu saw a niche market for a rice paper rolls concept back in 2005. We were the first in 2007 to introduce rolls with modern flavours, more hygienic packaging and choices of sauces," Director of Colonie Restaurants Group, Minh Nguyen said.

"Very few people actually realise that modern Vietnamese summer rolls have only been around for barely a decade.

"Prior to 2007, office workers had to settle with either going to Cabramatta for a fix or to a sushi bar with its Japanese reinterpretation of this classic Vietnamese dish," he said.

Today's milestone coincides with the launch of Mr Nguyen's 5th eatery later this month. Mr Nguyen's company has aggressive plans for further store openings in 2016 to reclaim its lead in the modern Vietnamese food sector.

Madame Nhu is named after co-owner Nhu Nguyen and is also a tribute to the controversial former "First Lady" of South Vietnam, Madame Nhu, from 1955 to 1963. Colonie Restaurants is a family-owned Australian company.

As part of its celebration, Madame Nhu ran a competition for free "wine and dine" vouchers via its 38,000 Instagram followers. Meanwhile, the launch of its new eatery will include a $5 promotional deal in December 2015.

Details of the new Madame Nhu eatery will be announced next week.
