Durham Franchise Expo Looks To Help Those Leaping Into A New Business

Sunday, April 03, 2016

In a packed crowd, people looking to take the leap into a new business searched for the perfect match in Durham Saturday.

The Franchise Expo Live hosted 55 franchise companies who are looking to take their franchise to the next level.

"Target audience and people that are here are mostly professionals that are in a career transition due to a layoff or they're working for somebody, but they're not necessarily being fulfilled there," explained Dan Prendergast, owner of the Entrepreneur Source, which hosted the expo.

In a setting like this, Eric Simon tells CBS North Carolina the process to becoming part of franchise is easier.

Before becoming the director of franchise development for AAMCO, Simon dived into the franchise world as a franchisee and remembers the fears he had going in including, " understanding that they can make a comfortable living for themselves that they like what they're going to do that they can actually take the next step in owning their next business, as a opposed to the security that they might feel at a corporate job or something like that," he said.

Organizers say forums like this ease those concerns, and the event also connects people towards the funding they'll need to start a new life.
