Coding, robots part of STEM push in public schools

More than $2 million will be spent on new resources for all primary schools with digital technologies.SIX hundred WA teachers will take coding workshops and all public primary schools will get new resources, including robots, as part of a push to boost students' science, maths, and technology skills. Education Minister Peter Collier announced on Tuesday the State Government would invest $2.7 million on new resources to outfit all primary schools with digital technologies by 2018.A further $4 million would go to new STEM resources for all public primary and secondary schools."In 2018, all primary schools will include digital technologies in their classrooms, and the Government will provide resource packs suitable for all public Kindergarten to Year 6 students across the State," Mr Collier said."With robotics and computer coding used in many contemporary and emerging industries, it is vital for students to learn skills in these areas."The packs will include programmable interactive robots and touch tablet devices with coding apps.
