Farmer Boys Selects Southern California Teacher To Serve As First-Ever Bacon Intern

Farmer Boys, the farm fresh fast casual concept known for its award-winning burgers and friendly service, has selected Southern California-based high school teacher, Mona Godfrey, as the first ever Bacon Intern.

Farmer Boys launched the nationwide search for the highly-coveted position in early August, asking bacon lovers to post a photo or video on Instagram explaining why they would be the perfect piggy to serve as the Bacon Intern. Godfrey's video stood out from the more than 300 submissions for its creativity and unique celebration of bacon. The video was filmed and edited by one of her current high school students and includes a slideshow of Godfrey in a bacon costume, alongside bacon paraphernalia, and even features a bacon theme song. "Mona Godfrey has bacon fever and Farmer Boys has the cure," said Larry Rusinko, VP and Chief Marketing Officer for Farmer Boys. "We were pleased with the amount of creativity shown in many of the pork-tacular Bacon Intern submissions, but we felt that Godfrey went above and beyond to show us just how much bacon means to her."

"My best friend told me about this contest, as well as my peeps on Facebook, and even my psychic told me - seriously! You know you have a real bacon addiction when your friends tag you in any post related to meat," remarked Godfrey. "I'm pretty sure a butcher was my first babysitter and I teethed on bacon strips and jerky, plus I can spend hours talking about all things meat and even pitched starting a meat class to one of the Assistant Principals last year. I know Farmer Boys made the right choice in choosing me to be their Bacon Intern!"

Godfrey's responsibilities as the Bacon Intern will include one day of taste testing Farmer Boys' signature bacon-topped items like the Bacon Boy burger, Farmer's Burger, and Farmer's Chopped Cobb Salad as well as rating strips of bacon for flavor and thickness. After a day of going hog wild at Farmer Boys, Godfrey will bring home the bacon and walk away with $1,000 in the piggy bank. Her shift will be scheduled for the week of September 9 at the Farmer Boys restaurant in Perris, Calif.
