When Al Tunick bought some deep fryers from a company that was going out of business, he didn't quite know what to do with them. Winnipeg entrepreneur Otto Koch purchased his first Chicken Delight franchise in 1969. Seeing the potential of the chain in Canada, Koch built and acquired additional franchise locations and in 1976 bought Chicken Delight of Canada Ltd. By providing quality service and cleanliness, the Canadian operation prospered. This success led to Koch’s acquisition of the U.S. and International arm - Chicken Delight International Inc. in 1979. For the first time the total Chicken Delight system was under one roof. Otto Koch passed away in December 2010 - but that wasn’t the end for Chicken Delight. Winnipeg couple Jim and Nadine Cartman became the new owners of Chicken Delight in June 2012. Under their leadership, Chicken Delight is now undergoing a brand refresh with focus on renovating existing stores, adding new menu items and improving customer service.

The Cartmans and their team keep a close eye on the marketplace and are constantly looking to expand Chicken Delight through franchising.

As a Fried Chicken Master franchisee, you will operate a retail food establishment that sells items from a proprietary menu featuring specialty and proprietary crispy fried chicken, appetizers and other consumable food items prepared in accordance with proprietary recipes and using proprietary rubs, sauces, spices, and preparation techniques and other authorized goods and services, at or delivered from the Store freshly prepared and available for carry-out or consumption on the premises.

The initial investment necessary to begin operation of a Fried Chicken Master franchised business ranges from $399,000 to $513,000 ($179,000 to $293,000 to build out your first store and a development fee and performance bond of $220,000 required under the Area Development Agreement). This includes $287,500 to $305,000 that must be paid to the franchisor or its affiliates.
