Appleton Restauranteur Rallies Community To Raise Funds For Fox Valley Humane Association

APPLETON, WI | Saturday, August 13, 2005

Pets are very near and dear to Kim Seidler’s heart. So when the Appleton woman, Cousins Subs franchise owner and pet-lover learned about the new facility that the Fox Valley Humane Association, Ltd., was building, she knew it was time to take some action to help out the association, local pets and the community. On Saturday, August 13, Seidler is spearheading a fundraiser, “For Pet’s Sake,” to show her support for the new 20,000 square-feet animal shelter. “For Pet’s Sake” will be a carnival-esque event that features games and prizes for pets and pet owners. The event will be held from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Northland Mall located at 706 W. Northland Ave., in Appleton. Siedler wanted to get involved because she knows that the Fox Valley Humane Association is in dire need of help and she wanted to rally the community, particularly animal lovers, to get involved in helping out. During the event, there will be a dog wash station where owners can have their pets cleaned and pampered for a $5 donation. There will also be a Hula-Hoop Jump, Frisbee Fetch and Bobbin' For Balls station. Local pet owners can have their dogs participate in these events for a $.75 cent donation at each station. Dogs that compete in these activities are eligible to win various prizes, including dog treats, toys, dog food from Pet Supplies Plus and sandwich certificates and party platters for their owners from Cousins Subs. All proceeds will go to The Fox Valley Humane Association. In addition to those funds being raised from the community, Seidler is donating 15 percent of her Cousins Subs store sales of the day to the association and the Cousins Subs corporate office in Menomonee Falls, Wis., is going to provide a matching donation. "Animals are special to me," said Seidler, Cousins Subs franchise owner who has a cat that she refers to as her Fur Child. "The animals in the area need a new place where they can be well kept and cared for while they wait to be adopted. This is something that the community really needs because I'm a firm believer in taking care of pets and showing them the love and attention that they deserve." The Fox Valley Humane Association serves the greater Fox Valley area as a resource for pets and people, providing protection and quality care for all animals as well as educational programs and animal welfare services for the community. The Appleton animal shelter currently serves 3,000 to 4,000 homeless animals in the Fox Valley area every year. Debby Lewis, Fox Valley Humane Association Executive Director, said the association will have the capacity to serve many more animals as well as be a resource for other groups within the community with the new facility. Lewis added that it is possible through the community support the association receives. “In the 76 years that the Fox Valley Humane Association has been in existence, we would never have been able to accomplish what we’ve done without the support of the community,” Lewis said. “We work to benefit both pets and people and we are very grateful to the people at Cousins Subs for lending us a helping hand.” For more information on the “For Pet’s Sake” and the Fox Valley Humane Association’s building project, please call 920-954-5880 or visit www.foxvalleypets.org. About Cousins Subs Cousins Subs is based in Milwaukee, Wis., and is a national sub sandwich chain with stores throughout the Midwest and on the West Coast. The tradition of Cousins Subs started in 1972, when two transplanted cousins from Atlantic City saw the need for an East coast-style sub shop in their new hometown. They patterned their subs after the hoagie, grinder, hero and sub sandwiches they enjoyed back East. And with a dedication to delivering quality subs at fair prices, they opened their first restaurant. From the start, the two used bread baked fresh every morning and insisted on using only the finest, freshest ingredients.
