Cuts Fitness Responds To New Study Revealing Startling Numbers Regarding Overweight Americans

Why Do Americans Continue to Ignore the Benefits of "Body Movement''?

Cuts Fitness, one of the fastest growing fitness franchises in the world, is responding to a Framingham Heart Study report released this week warning that the vast majority of adults are at risk of becoming overweight or obese in their lifetimes. Nine out of 10 men and seven out of 10 women monitored over a 30- year period became overweight at some point or were overweight already, Heart Study researchers report in the Annals of Internal Medicine. Says the lead author of the study, Dr. Ramachandran Vasan, a Boston University medical professor. "You're at increased risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, several forms of cancer, osteoarthritis, gallbladder disease, sleep apnea. There's a host of conditions that have been linked to excess weight," Vasan said. "The negative effects of being overweight have been well documented, yet the general population has still been slow to make a correction," said John Gennaro, President & Founder of Cuts Fitness. "What we have learned though our experience at Cuts Fitness is that unless a product is developed that appeals to the masses, the "overweight trend" statistics are going to continue upward at alarming rates." Why aren't people moving their bodies to combat this problem? Time: Consumers don't have the time anymore to devote more than 30 minutes to body movement. Comfort: The general population does not feel comfortable in a gym setting featuring muscle enthusiasts combined with intimidating exercise equipment. Effectiveness: Unless the consumer is with a personal trainer, they typically have little direction and their workout suffers as a result. Understanding:At a very basic level, consumers must be educated about the benefits of body movement. Connection: Consumers need other reasons to commit to regular body movement. Relationships and the overall experience play a big role. Cost: Unless you make it affordable, consumers are less likely to commit to a program.
