Japanese Film Crew Features Biologix In 'Spaceship Earth' Environmental Tv Series

ST LOUIS | Friday, January 28, 2000

Dale Kalina, president and CEO of St. Louis-based BioLogix Systems Corporation, always knew that one day his growing company would be featured internationally on the environmental benefits of his unique biotech company. Recently, Kalina's vision was realized when the award-winning Japanese TV producer Kazuhiro Hirakawa and director Keiji Miyazaki, of the ASAHI NATIONAL NETWORK, showcased BioLogix for the tree-part environmental series "Spaceship Earth". During their five-day visit to St. Louis, the crew filmed the program "Getting Resources From Waste", which aired nationally on Japanese Television Channel 10 on January 16, 2000. It all started when Shinya Katsumata, vice president for BioLogix of Japan, enlisted the research help of close friend Takaaki Arai, professor of Industrial Engineering at Nihon University. After testing many products from varied manufacturers, Arai's research singled-out one of the products from the BioLogix WaterTreat line as the most effective application for the degradation of paper mill and sugar cane factory waste. "We are proud to receive international recognition for our accomplishments in the biotech field," said Kalina of BioLogix's cost-effective, environmentally beneficial bacterial solutions. "It was an honor to welcome a crew from the high-tech world of Japan to see St. Louis' cutting-edge contribution to the international biotech world." During their brief trip to the "Show Me" state, the crew also shot footage of various St. Louis landmarks to add to the footage already shot in Japan at Amami-Ohshima, a sugar cane plant waste facility in Noboribetu, a paper sludge and sugar beet waste facility where BioLogix's unique biotech product is successfully being utilized. BioLogix Systems Corporation, a holding management company that employs 35 people, has two operating companies. BioLogix Products Group, Inc., which through two operating divisions (WaterTreat and Formulary Concentrated Products), develops, manufactures and sells a wide range of institutional biological cultures for use in waste treatment and other institutions throughout the United States and internationally. The other subsidiary, BioLogix Service Corporation, administers BioLogix Environmental Services, which includes their Grease Elimination System (G.E.S), Hygiene and Odor Control (H.O.C.). Currently, there are 16 franchises operating in 20 states with projections that call for an additional 30 franchises to open by 2002. In the 10 years since its conception, BioLogix has evolved from a start-up company with unique biotechnology concepts to establishing itself as a leader in applied biotechnology. Today, the growing, privately-held company, which features a WaterTreat Products Division, whose products and services are serving a diverse array of Fortune 500 companies as well as small-to-large municipalities nationwide. In fact, in the first quarter of 2000, BioLogix will move their World headquarters to a 30,000 square foot plus facility in West St. Louis County.
