Harold McDonnell, Chairman, C.E.O. and Founder of the chain, has kept the company in the forefront of service and menu innovation for over 40 years. The chain, which started with the first unit at Eglinton & Redpath in midtown Toronto , began to franchise in 1977 and has now grown to 40 units. At least three new locations are expected to be open in 2005.
The chain has received Toronto Sun, Reader's Choice Gold Awards for Best Breakfast and Weekend Brunch since the inception of the award program 11 years ago. Out of a total of 33 awards for which it was eligible, Golden Griddle has won 32, including 21 gold awards. Now Golden Griddle is increasing it's focus on the lunch and dinner day parts with the introduction of our new menu.
"Everyone has told us for years that we do a good job on breakfast and certainly the Toronto Sun awards year after year are proof of that" notes Mr. McDonnell. "Now we want to show the same commitment to the other meal occasions and we believe with our new revitalized menu we can do that."
