There are 16 wing flavors on the menu, including a new lemon pepper flavor. The best part is, they are available boneless! The most popular are the honey-barbecue and honey-mustard wings, but they all sell well, said John Sparks, co-manager of Wings Over Storrs.
The secret to their success is in part due to the ingredients themselves. We use the top ingredients, said Sparks.
They also offer cheeseburgers made with prime quality Angus beef.
According to Sparks, the busiest times are Friday and Saturday nights, but only after the football season when Sundays also generate a lot of business.
Regionally managed by Mark Simonds, Wings Over Storrs is part of a chain of wings restaurants. The first wings took flight over students of the University of Massachusetts and since then, restaurants have taken off in Atlanta and other locations. There is currently a plan to open one in Hartford near the University of Hartford.
Its really a growing franchise, said Sparks. Everyone (all delivery people) makes good money.. Close to $100 a night. Wing orders come in varied sizes starting at a DC-3 a good-sized portion for one person, all the way up to a party-size C-5 with 120 wings. Orders come with a delicious blue cheese dressing for dipping and compliments the golden barbecue flavored wing quite nicely.
My favorite is the garlic-parmesan, said Sparks.
But whether your taste be teriyaki or the spice of West Texas-Mesquite and Cajun-Blackened, there is a flavor to suit anyones palate.
In addition to wings, Wings Over Storrs also offers full-racks and half-racks of barbequed pork baby back ribs as well as chicken sandwiches and hamburgers. Wings may be ordered on their own or in combo packs with French fries, onion rings, or coleslaw.
Prices range from $4.95 plus tax and tip for the DC-3 or $9.50 for a DC-10, all the way up to $44.95 for the all-new Zeppelin. Wings Over Storrs is conveniently located on 1650 Storrs Road, next to the B&D Package Store, but they offer free delivery to anywhere on campus and much of the surrounding area. Restaurant hours are from 4:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Sun. through Wed., but they are open until 3:00 a.m. Thurs., Fri., and Sat. Call 429-6666 and try them for yourself
