Soup's On!

Monday, January 01, 2001

Last month, locked in the deep freeze, we put out a call for your favorite soup spots. Thanks to all who participated - the response was, well, warming. There wasn't much of a consensus, but several Raters favored a little place on Broadway called the Soupbox. And we have a soup scoop for you: another Soupbox will open later this year in the Northwestern station at 500 W. Madison.

Here's what Raters had to say about their favorite soups: -- My vote has to go to the Soupbox on Broadway!! I LOVE THIS PLACE!! No bells & whistles - just good soup. Small storefront at Diversey & Broadway - you'd miss it if you weren't looking for it. They have 12 different soups every day! Personal favorites - Chicken with Wild Rice, Potato & Leek, and the Lobster Bisque. You can order just the soup, or couple it with a bread bowl!! Either way.....this is the best place for a hot bowl of soup. You can't really dine in, unless you're lucky enough to snag one of the few tables. Mostly carryout.

-- The Soupbox on Broadway is the best place for soup. my favorites - lobster bisque and clam chowder.

-- Not a hard question, not really a restaurant, but the Soupbox in Lakeview serves the best soup in town. New England Clam Chowder, or Tomato Florentine, or Split Pea with Ham.

-- Chicken with Wild Rice at the Soupbox...hearty, thick, and tender chicken."
