Kitchens Have Gotten Bigger, Fancier And More Open

Saturday, April 15, 2006

The kitchen has become one of the most important rooms in the house. It's all part of the boom in hosting; many Americans now prefer to invite guests in.

Naturally the host or hostess wants to be in on the conversation and fun, so kitchens have gotten bigger, fancier and more open, the better to enable the cook to interact with the rest of the party.

And homeowners want their kitchens to reflect their evolving uses. That means the latest in cabinets, countertops and floors.

"We target the middle to upper-end homeowner," says Jason Baldner, the president of Kitchen Solvers, which has been in business since 1982. "The consumers looking to have better experiences than they would get going through a home center type of contractor." Baldner says, "The cocooning trend has been very good for us. And with home values skyrocketing, homeowners have much easier access to money. That has helped too." The company already has locations in 37 states and is looking to add 15 to 20 locations a year.
