Mandarin St. Catharines is now open for business. The 18,000 square-foot restaurant opened its doors for the first time on Wednesday, December 1. A grand opening celebration will take place later this winter. The Chinese-Canadian restaurant features an award-winning, all-you-can eat buffet, as well as �-la-carte and take-out menus. It is located at 366 Bunting Road, at Carlton Street. The restaurant is housed in the Premier plaza, along with Premier Fitness and The Bank of Montreal. "It is wonderful to finally have a presence in St. Catharines," says Mandarin Vice President, George Chiu. "Many people have waited patiently for this moment. Now that we're finally open, we want to thank those people for their constant encouragement. We hope to build on that enthusiasm. It really will become a part of the St. Catharines experience." Mandarin St. Catharines will offer the same legendary service and abundant cuisine that can be found at the chain's fifteen other locations. Its convenient location means that both residents and visitors to the area can make Mandarin a repeated destination. The whole restaurant can accommodate approximately 400 people at a time. The d�cor features a bamboo room, a Japanese-inspired room, a 12-foot rock waterfall in the lobby, and three freshwater Koi aquariums. The large, central buffet area features several tables loaded with everything from soups and salads, to sushi, to entr�es, to desserts. A grill is housed right in the buffet area, where customers can watch chefs prepare a variety of meats to customers' specifications. "Mandarin has just celebrated its 25th Anniversary, and we're looking to kick off the next 25 years with a terrific new restaurant," says Paul Si, one of the front managing partners. Five working partners including Paul Si will co-manage the restaurant. Jin Tian Hou and Betty Wu will manage the kitchen, while Albert Ng and Joey Zhu will serve as front managers with Si. There are currently 16 Mandarin restaurants across Southern Ontario and more in the planning stages. The next scheduled Mandarin Restaurant will open in mid 2005.
