Ty Detmer, Friendly Computers Team Up To Protect Kids Online

Heisman Trophy Winner and NFL / BYU quarterback Ty Detmer is teaming up with Friendly Computers to promote safer surfing for kids online.

Purple Dude Internet Watch, a new keystroke-logging program developed by Friendly Computers, aims to keep kids safe by helping parents check up on their online activities.

Detmer is a supporter of Friendly Computers' efforts to shield kids from online dangers and inappropriate content, personified by Friendly Computers' superhero, Purple Dude. Detmer was on hand for Friendly Computers' first Purple Dude Internet Awareness Day on Tuesday July 12, 2005. The Ty Detmer autograph-signing event was the highlight of Purple Dude Internet Awareness Week. All who participated had a great time, with free food and entertainment for all ages. And with the extremely hot weather, there were no shortage of volunteers for the dunk tank.

Detmer, currently on the roster for the Atlanta Falcons, won the Heisman trophy in 1990. He set 59 NCAA records during his career at Brigham Young University in Utah, including most touchdown passes (121), most yards passing (15,031), and most completions (958).

He's now teaming up Friendly Computers and child safety organizations like Nevada Child Seekers (www.nevadachildseekers.org) to help parents tackle online hazards.

Purple Dude Internet Watch lets parents choose how closely they wish to monitor their kids online. They can save what's on the screen at scheduled intervals, or capture every keystroke, including passwords that their kids use online.

Purple Dude Internet Watch sends the captured information to an encrypted log file, which can be forwarded to a remote email address in real time.
