Mask Project Gala nears end
The Mask Project Gala comes down Saturday night at the Cherry Creek Shopping Center. But you don't have to be there to buy one of the 900 faces that make up the event. Sure, there's a live auction and silent auction at the party where some big-name faces get some big-bucks bidders. But most of the mugs are on sale at themaskproject.org. Top bids on masks as of Thursday: Re/Max boss Dave Liniger, $2,500; Donald Trump, $1,200; artist Carrie Fell, $1,200; George Strait, $750; Mike Shanahan, $650; John Elway, $530; Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick from "The Producers," $525. It's hard to draw any conclusions from these figures. Are coaches worth more than ex-players? Actors worth less than industrialists? Is no one worth more than a real esate honcho? Hot diggity Steve Ballas at Steve's Snappin' Dogs at East Colfax and Monroe is mighty proud of his hot dogs. Thumann's, "Direct from New Jersey," he brags on his menu. But a few weeks ago, he says, a giant billboard went up across the street for Heidi's Brooklyn Deli, announcing "Great News for Dog Lovers!" and featuring New York's Nathan's hot dogs. Patrons sitting at the counter at Steve's look directly at the Heidi's hot dog sign. You can't help yourself. "I think we've started a hot dog war," said Ballas. "But I tell you, if you like Nathan's, you'll love Thumann's." Oh, BTW, Ballas' wife, Linda, is the daughter of Blinky the Clown. Talk about a hot dog. "We can put our wieners to the test anytime," says Heidi's owner Steve Naples. "I've had a Thumann's hot dog and they are good. But Nathan's are Nathan's and they are the best." "Bring it on!" says Ballas. Pooling resources Aspen homeowner Jonathan Lewis will get to build his party pool after all, says the Aspen Daily News. Neighbor Jack Nicholson had some concerns about the pool, which will sit on a bluff with a staircase leading to it that'll be enclosed by a glass tower. The pool is also near the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies. Lewis got the green light last week for the party pool under conditions that include: No reflective paint on the bottom of the pool. No reflective paint inside the tower. How can you have a party pool without reflective paint? Have Adam Adam Brody plays Seth Cohen on "The OC" - the kinda dorky one who loves indie bands.
